Hi there! I've got more BasicGrey for you today!! This album just went up on the BasicGrey Blog. The journal features the new Knee Highs & Bow Ties Collection as well as the new 7″x 9″ Journaling Binder. I had a stack of Instagram photos that didn’t really warrant their own page, but together told a fun story of adventure for the Tidwell kids. The album came together so easily because of the pre-printed pages of the Journaling Binder.
The Journaling Binder cover already had a great starting point so I just added a few embellishments to personalize it.
The title page consists of a little paper layering (included the use of a bit of product packing) and several embellishments. You’ll noticed that there is a lot of machine stitching in this album. I sewed the elements and then adhered them to the pages to keep the stitching from showing on the other side. That also saves you from any goof ups.
I kept the focus on the photos by just adding a few fun embellishments to each page. To make the album more interactive I used the page protectors as embellishments. I filled them with different goodies throughout the album. On this first divider I simply dropped a banner into the page protector and stapled it at the top and bottom to keep it in place. And since they are double sided it looks great flipped either way!
I didn’t use the dividers on every page, just enough to keep things interesting. On this spread you can see that I combined three photos from different occasions, but together they tell a great story.
On this spread I cut a page protector in half and filled it with punched circles of Knee Highs & Bow Ties papers. To keep the circles from all falling to the bottom I put a bit of adhesive on a few of them.
If a pre-printed page was a little busy for my photo I layered on a different patterned paper. I left the original peeking out a bit though. I also left a few loose strands on the machine stitching to give it more of a handmade and well-loved look.
I was so happy with how quickly this album came together. The Knee Highs & Bow Ties Collection mixed together with ease. And I’m happy that these random Instagrams now have a happy home!

Awe, those playground days—a time full of wonderment and imagination. BasicGrey has captured that energy and excitement in these two coordinating lines. The rough and tumble look of Bow Ties will liven up your crafty toy box, with its vibrant shades of leap-frog green, red-rover red, freeze-tag teal, and more. And the playful motifs in this line, which include tools, cars, creepy-crawlies and rocket ships, will rev your creative engine and as your project ideas soar to new heights.
Looking for a bit more sugar and spice? Knee Highs will put a smile on your face with its rainbow brights and fanciful florals.
I went all boy on this layout with Bow Ties goodies. I love that the products are masculine, but can be used for any age or event. I used a mixture of 2x2 photos to highlight my Crew Crew. The flag banner across the top was a fun additon. I machine stiched the paper strip first and then tucked the flags behind the strip. Look how fun the chipboard 'hello' is! Love the negative cut. The splash of red in this collection makes it really pop!
Trying to get back into the swing of things after a busy spring break...thought I'd update real quick with a new BasicGrey layout. It was on the BasicGrey Blog last week...but I noticed that the products I used are now available at 2peas! This is all from the new Knee Highs & Bow Ties Collection. Love the boy & girl elements...and that they can be mixed, too.
This layout was based on a sketch by Susan Stringfellow. You can read more about it here.
Here are some of the supplies I used...
Yesterday I had a new layout and video go up on 2peas for the 213 in 2013 series. This time around I took a little different approach than usual and made a 'grown up' layout. Loved working with a different color scheme than my norm and plan on doing that more often!
For those of you who don't know, '213 in 2013' is a weekly video series that I and a team of other Garden Girls host. Each week we have 4-5 new prompts to help inspire you. By the end of 2013 you will have a list of 213 creative challenges to use as a resource!
